Museum of Sacred Art

The Museum of Sacred Art of San Gimignano is housed in the ancient Dormitorio dei Cappellani, on the southern side of Piazza Pecori. The Museum develops over two floors and holds exquisite paintings on wood and on canvas, sculptures, bas-reliefs, illuminated codices, fabrics and objects made of silver, which come from the churches and convents of the territory and, in particular, from the Collegiata. Very dear to the people of San Gimignano is the wonderful painting on wood by Bartolo di Fredi depicting the Madonna of the Rose, one of this Sienese painter’s most refined works, which comes from the parish church of San Biagio in Cusona.
